Pre-AP Class Taken: Pre-AP Algebra II Year Taken: 2019-2020 Material Advice: Holt Algebra 2 Texas Edition (textbook), Khan Academy, Desmos General Advice: - Use your textbook!!!!! Whenever you don’t understand the lesson of the day or specific contents, I recommend that you find that section in this textbook, as it will provide in-depth explanations and examples on that topic. Even if you understand all of the content that you learned that day, I still strongly recommend that you at least look through the section you learned from the textbook because sometimes the textbook provides a different/faster approach to the problem or contains some example problems that your teacher might not have gone over in class. Holt textbook also provides answers to the odd
numbered questions on the back so you can do some practice problems and check your answers! -Try to understand every word problem : if you see any word problems on your homework or quiz that you don’t understand, ask your teacher- because it is very likely that similar type of word problems will appear on your test! - Review every other day : You probably won't have time to study Algebra II every day, but at least study every other day and review the concepts that you learned before starting your homework. If you study every other day, you won’t have to painfully cram everything into your head before the test day!

Pre-AP Class Taken: Pre-AP English II Year Taken: 2019-2020 Material Advice: Sparknotes, Books (last year we read Catcher In the Rye, 1984, Doll's House, Life of Pi, and were supposed to read the Stranger and Of Mice and Men) General Advice: Advanced English II is pretty rigorous course that prepares you for future AP English classes. I really recommend reading books in advance (even during summer!) so that you don't get behind on class reading schedule. Teachers often assign pop quizzes over the reading, so make sure you read the assigned parts before class and understand specific details. I recommend reading Sparknotes summaries and taking section quizzes on Sparknotes as they will prepare you well for the pop quizzes. After reading each book, we do a timed writing over the analysis of that novel. To prepare for the timed writings, annotate the book for motifs of thematic ideas regularly (even if it's not required) so that you can look over these annotations later and get prepared for your timed essay. DON'T rely your entire analysis on Sparknotes or other study sites like Litcharts. Although they provide some good analysis, most of them would be generic (and a lot of your friends will probably read that too) and you won't be able to score high if you are just copying off Sparknotes ideas. Overall, you have to constantly work for this class to improve your writings and analysis skills, but the hard work will pay off you'll enjoy many projects that you do in this class! Good luck! :)

AP Class Taken: AP Computer Science Principles Year Taken: 2018-2019 Material Advice: Barron's AP Computer Science Principles, 5 Steps to a 5 AP Computer Science Principles, Scratch, Java General Advice: AP Computer Science Principles is an introductory computer science course that explores basic coding and computing for coding beginners. If you are not familiar with coding, you will be starting from basic programming languages like Scratch to more advanced ones like Java and Python. The class is mostly self-paced, but I really recommend working on your Create Performance Task (part of your AP exam) as early as possible, as developing your own computer program could take some time. To prepare for the multiple choice portion of the test, I recommend test prep books such as Barron's or 5 Steps. They have practice multiple choice tests on the back that help you prepare for your exam. Overall, the class itself is pretty manageable as long as you finish your tasks on time and stay focused! Good luck! :)
